I thoroughly enjoyed this story of Prudence and Herman and little Percy. Evidently there are other tales of mail order brides coming to this Colo. town but in no way did this diminish this story. Even without the background info on the other brides, this story was complete...a stand alone book. The character from the town came through just fine.Both Pru and Herman have experienced bad times that make them wary to open the iron hearts but life has a way of giving us what we need...Love, family, trust and hope. Thank God.
I like the way the author help the boy, Percy, learn and take his first steps into manhood. I also like that Pru and Herman accepted responsibility for their past mistakes.
I hope you enjoy this quick and satisfying read.

Great story. Clean. Well written. Highly recommend. Would enjoy rereading. Sweet clean romance. Loved the way you put the plan if salvation and words about Jesus. Loving caring story. Needs proof reading. That's the only negative.
This is a great story about a young mother and her son who are looking for a new start. Her husband ran off years ago and she has abandonment papers. Unfortunately for her, he returns at the wrong moment and tries to weasel back into their lives. All for the stolen cash he left behind. Will she escape his outlaw ways and find love? Will she lose her son in the process? Does a happily ever after truly exist?
I love this little town and the good hearted people who live there. Mrs.Carroll has created a hero and heroine you can't help but hope succeed. It makes you wonder how many more will read Thomas ad and come to town looking for marriage. The Christian influence is enough to warm your. The majestic backdrop of a Colorado winter a boy who likes trouble and a outlaw long thought dead adds excitement to the story. A fun read.
Mail Order bride books are my favorite. I gave it five stars for being clean. No sex or swear words. The theme of the story was really good.
SPOILER----I did not like Percy but it wasn't his fault. The h did not try to discipline him at all, yet she was scared he had bad blood and would grow up to be like his father. Give me a break please. The only reason he would grow up like his father is because she spared the rod and spoiled the child. I really lost respect for her.
A mail order bride as has a town on its toes! Women keep appearing looking for the groom who is already married! Prudence arrives in town with her ornery son and finds her groom to be taken. Staying at the boarding house and working for the handsome mercantile owner, she finds love by way of work and an assumed dead outlaw husband showing up. Patricia Carroll weaves a beautiful tale of love and God has a huge part in it!
A really fun story to read. The passion of the mother-son relationship was enriching. The wisdom of the single mother was inspiring and the the development of a mature love relationship between Herman and Prudence was beautiful. I feel a stronger woman after reading it and think any woman would enjoy this book. I also feel a stronger Christian after reading The Lone Stranger. I'm looking forward to further happenings at Hickory Stick. Please keep writing, Patricia! Our society needs these enriching books!
Great book and a bit different than your usual mail order bride story.A young woman with a son who can't stay out of trouble move to Hickory Lick after seeing an ad in the paper for a Mail Order bride.When they arrive she finds out that the man who placed the ad is already married.She finds a jib that she is qualified for and begins her life in the new town and is falling for her boss.Then trouble shows up in the form of her long gone husband who she had not heard from in 7 years.
